Get to know Transplant Surgeon Dr. Josue Alvarez-Casas, who serves patients in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Alvarez-Casas is an abdominal transplant surgeon dedicated to liver, kidney, and pancreas recipients’ care. He is affiliated with the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. After earning his medical degree from the University of Genova in 2001, Dr. Alvarez-Casas went on to serve his residency at San Martino Hospital and completed his Multi-Organ abdominal Transplant Surgery fellowship at the University of Maryland Medical Center in 2012. Dr. Alvarez-Casas serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery & Surgical Director of Organ Procurement at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In addition to Liver, Kidney, and pancreas transplantation, his clinical interests also include minimally invasive single-port  Living Kidney Donation and reducing Hispanic/Latino disparities in Transplantation. His current research interests include exploring the potential of normothermic Ex-Vivo liver perfusion to improve outcomes and organ acceptance, Donor after Cardiac Death organ utilization, and warm ischemic time interpretation and correlation with transplant outcomes. In addition to English, Dr. Alvarez-Casas speaks Spanish, Italian, and French.
