Josue Alvarez-Casas, MD, is a 2001-graduate of the School of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Genova/Scuola di Scienze Mediche e Farmaceutiche, Università di Genova in Genoa, Italy. His postgraduate training includes his surgical residency served at Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria San Martino (2001-2004), as well as his transplant surgery residency performed at Mount Sinai Health System/Miller Recanati Transplant Institute in New York (2008). Dr. Alvarez-Casas is fellowship-trained in multi-organ abdominal transplant surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, MD (2010-2012). He attained Abdominal Transplant Surgery Certification in Kidney and Pancreas with the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. Dr. Alvarez-Casas’ research interests include exploring the potential of normothermic Ex-Vivo liver perfusion to improve outcomes and organ acceptance, Donor after Cardiac Death organ utilization, and warm ischemic time interpretation and correlation with transplant outcomes.
